TDM4 - How to Create an Instagram Data Source

Introduction

With TDM, you can connect different external data sources to display real-time information within your presentations.
TDM supports the following external data sources:

  • Facebook

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

  • Yahoo Weather

  • Office 365 Calendar

  • Google Calendar

  • Flickr

  • Yammer

  • LinkedIn

  • Exchange

  • Power BI

  • NS

  • Axis (People Counter camera)

  • HikVision (People Counter camera)

This guide explains how to create an Instagram data source.

Note: TDM refreshes external data every five minutes. If you post new content on Instagram, it may take up to five minutes before it appears on your device.

Requirements

To create an Instagram data source, you need:

  • Administrator access to the TDM Designer

  • Access to an Instagram account

How to Create an Instagram Data Source

  1. Log in to the TDM Designer using an administrator account:

  2. Open the “Config Panel” from the menu on the left side of the designer.

  3. Select the “External Data” tab to open the overview of your data sources.

  4. Click the “+” button on the right side to create a new data source.

  5. Enter a name for your data source and select “Instagram.”
    Once the fields have been filled in, click “Next.”

  6. You will be redirected to the Instagram login page.
    Log in using the credentials of the Instagram account you want to connect to TDM.

  7. After logging in, a message will appear asking you to grant TDM Signage access to your Instagram account.

    • Click “Allow” or “Continue” to proceed.

    • If you have previously granted access, you may see a message confirming that TDM Signage is already linked. Select “Continue” to proceed.

  8. The window will close, and you will be redirected back to the TDM Designer.
    The page will refresh automatically, and the Instagram data source will be created.

  9. To verify that TDM can pull data from your Instagram account. Open the “External Data” tab again.

  10. Click the preview (eye) icon next to your Instagram data source.

  11. A preview of the available data will appear.

    If the XML preview contains information, the Instagram data source has been set up successfully.

You have now successfully created an Instagram data source in TDM.
You can use this data to display your latest Instagram posts and media in your digital signage presentations.
