Introduction
With version 4.4 of TDM Digital Signage it is possible to use the TDM player as your screensaver. This will make it possible to display custom content on all the workstations within your company when they are not in use. The screensaver player has support for all elements and this means there are no restrictions regarding content usage in comparison to normal Signage.
The screensaver player works with a pushing mechanism. This means that the screensaver player will not connect to the TDM platform to check if any updated content is available. This is to limit the network traffic generated by the screensaver players.
This manual will explain how the screensaver player can be installed throughout the network using the command line.

How To install the TDM screensaver player
In this section, we will explain how the screensaver player can be installed. You will require an installation file which you can download by logging on to your TDM account, please note that version 4.4 or above is required in case you want to use the screensaver player.
- Login to the designer with an administrator account: https://designer.tdmsignage.com
- Once logged in select: Administration > Downloads
- From here you can download the setup called “PC Player Vx.x Full Setup”, the latest version is always on top.
- We also need the registration data, this can be found in the designer as well. You can find these details under “Administration”.
- Here is a section called “Registration Data”, the username and password specified here can be copied as we need them for the installation of the screensaver player.
- Now we can continue with the installation of the TDM software. To configure the TDM software as your screensaver some additional settings need to be set, the installer is capable of configuring the settings using the command prompt. To start the command prompt please search for ‘cmd’ in the start menu.
- Once the command prompt has started you can navigate to the folder of the installation file, this can be done as followed: cd c:\tools\installers\
Please note that you need to enter a different path in case your installation file is located in a different location. - Now we can run the installer with some specific parameters, the command we need to run is:
"TDM Player Setup.exe" /screensaver=true /regusr=”<username>” /regpwd=<password> /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /SILENT
Please replace <username> and <password> with the username and password we retrieved from the designer.
Please note that the name of the setup can be different then in our example, if this is the case please adjust the name in the command. Once the command is executed the setup will start installing the software. - Once the installation has finished TDM is configured as your default screensaver, this can be verified by checking your screensaver settings. Use the start menu to search for ‘Screensaver’ and open the settings.
- The screensaver should be set to ‘Player’. In this menu you can also adjust the amount of time before the screensaver will start. With the preview you can manually start the screensaver player, otherwise the screensaver player will start after the configured amount of time.
The player will register once it has started for the first time, a license will be assigned automatically in case a valid screensaver license is available. After this your device will be visible in the screensaver player overview:
You have successfully installed the screensaver player, only thing left to do is assign a presentation to your device.
Good to know is that the screensaver player works with a pushing mechanism, this means that the screensaver player will not connect to the TDM platform to check if any updated content is available. This to limit the network traffic generated by the screensaver player.
In case the content has been updated it is required to make the screensaver player aware of the updated content, this can be done with the ‘Push Content’ button located in the ‘Screensaver Players’ tab.
