Introduction
TDM5 offers the ability to add external data sources. With these data sources TDM5 offers the ability to display real-time information within your presentation. This manual will explain how a custom data source can be setup.
Requirements
If you want to setup a custom data source you need to meet the following requirements:
- Have administrator access to your TDM5 environment
- Have all required information available regarding the external data sources you want to add
How To setup a custom data source
- Login to your TDM5 environment using an administrator account.
- Select “Interactions”.
- Select the menu option called “Data sources”
- Select ‘Custom’ and press the “Create new” button to the right to create a new data source.
- In this example we are using a RSS feed from Euronews which contains the latest news from Europe, the URL for this feed is: https://www.euronews.com/rss?format=mrss&level=theme&name=news
To add this data source enter the following values:
Name: Euronews RSS Connection type: HTTP
URL: https://www.euronews.com/rss?format=mrss&level=theme&name=news
Update interval: 1 hour
Now press ‘Retrieve data’:
- A preview of all values can be seen in the ‘Choose your properties’ dropdown. Here you can select the values which you want to use for your content.
Once a value has been selected, a preview will be shown in the right part of the screen:
- You can give custom names to the values when opening the dropdown menu ‘Selected properties’, these names will be shown when using the data source in your design. You can also set a default value in case the feed has a row which does not contain any information. In this example we leave this empty.
You have successfully created a custom data source which can now be used in your design. Please check our manual ‘TDM5 - How to link a data source to an element’ for more information regarding the usage of external data sources.
